A few years ago I went out with a girlfriend of mine to a ballroom dancing class. At the time my husband and I were separated, and she knew I needed some therapeutic fun time. So we went to a class that they offer here for free every Sunday and Tuesday night.
It was a bit awkward at first, to say the least. I can't really say I was ever the best dancer and now there were rules and counts I had to pay attention to - and the most intimidating part of all was learning how to follow... Read more...
I'm so glad to see that so many people are using technology as a mission/ministry tool. Sometimes when I log in to Facebook or Twitter the inspirational quotes, scriptures, or other updates are exactly what my soul needs at that moment. At times, it's as if God himself is saying, "Don't give up"..."hold on"..."it's just a test"..."I'll see you through the storm..." and most times it really makes my day.
On the other hand, there are people who claim to be Christian, yet the write updates in a manner that totally contradicts that. They reveal personal details without tact, post negative rants, or use profanity. I'm sure they must be thinking, only my friends will see this, and maybe in some strange way this will be entertaining... (?) I don't know, but more than your friends can see it, their friends' friends might get it and honestly if it's on the internet, all it takes a little cut and paste and anyone on this green earth can see it.
My question for those people are: would you want your pastor to read this? Your boss? Your mom? Read more...
Learning to trust God is not an easy feat, but it's essential if you truly want to deepen your relationship with Him. In fact, that it what faith is - it's trusting solely in God.
God provides with countless opportunities to strengthen our faith muscles. He tests us to see how we will handle our finances; how we treat people; and how we live our everyday life. We often freeze up when we're presented with these tests because they threaten our comfort... Read more...
In my continued efforts to liven up this blog, I've decided that on Thursdays, I'll post a collection of some of my old posts - that's why I'm calling it Throwback Thursday. Yes, I'm digging deep into the archives to bring you some of those early posts you may have missed.
This week's theme is The Power of Hope. I'm compiling all of my posts that demonstrate the miraculous things God can do. We must never let go of our hope. When people lose hope, it's because they've lost faith in God's promises. But God's promises are real... Read more...
I experienced God's presence for the first time when I went to a Christian Women's retreat a few years ago with New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio. It was such a wonderful experience that I often have a hard time explaining it to people when they ask me what we did that was so great. When I tell them that we spent most of the weekend in Praise and Worship and prayer sessions, they often get this puzzled look on their faces... Read more...
As cliche as "focus on the good" may sound, people are gung-ho about it until they're asked to focus on the good in their marriage. Why is it so easy to see the good in everything else? Why are we so quick to complain about what our spouse don't do; what they did lastnight, last week, last year? We let everything else slide. We see the good in our jobs, even though we really hate it; we see the good in other people who blatantly try to take advantage of our kindness, but when it comes to our husband or wife, we tend to be much more critical and nit-picky. Whenever I listen to Kurt Carr's "Set the Atmosphere" these lyrics (reach up and get it...) get me everytime. They remind that all I have to do, is reach for my blessings and they'll be given. I believe this now, but at first, my logic wouldn't allow me to understand this.
How could it be possible that all I have to do is reach up and get it, and it would be mine? If it was that simple why hadn't the things I'd been praying for come to fruitition yet? What did he mean, when he said that I could get my breakthrough tonight? What was he really saying? Click to read more...
I've been witness over and over again to God's provisions, in my life and in others. It inspires joyful celebration within me everytime. But then something happens. Time passes. Another challenge presents itself...and I begin to worry.
My Pastor has repeatedly told me that if I'm going to pray about, there's no need to worry about it and if I'm going to worry about it, then there's no need to pray about it. He says this because the two can't co-exist. Worrying is a contradiction to prayer - worry is an expression of doubt and of disbelief that God truly is able to work it out.
Yet, how is it that I often find myself (I'm sure you don't do this...) going through a cycle of prayer and then later, when I don't see any evidence of change, worry? I'm a confessed believer - I know that God is able - what is my problem? Read More:
